The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has extended the yellow heatwave alert to multiple districts in Telangana, warning of soaring temperatures through the weekend. Initially issued for Friday (March 14, 2025) and Saturday (March 15, 2025), the alert now stretches to Sunday (March 16, 2025), covering additional districts.

According to the latest IMD bulletin released on Saturday, heatwave conditions are expected in isolated pockets of Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, and Peddapalli on Saturday. On Sunday, Nirmal and Karimnagar districts have also been placed under the alert, bringing the total to eight affected districts.

Temperatures soar above 40°C in 21 districts

The heatwave warning comes as Telangana continues to experience sweltering conditions, with maximum temperatures exceeding 40°C in 21 districts. Data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), which recorded temperatures between Friday morning and Saturday morning, showed Adilabad Rural registering the highest at 40.8°C.

Tiryani in Kumuram Bheem Asifabad followed closely at 40.7°C, while seven other districts reported 40.6°C. Even urban centres recorded high temperatures, with Maheshwaram in Rangareddy reaching 40.3°C and Keesara in Medchal-Malkajgiri touching 40.1°C. In Hyderabad, the highest temperature recorded was 38.7°C in Asifnagar.
