The View hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin hit back at former President Trump’s remarks during his rallies in Pennsylvania, where he went on to attack the show’s host Whoopi Goldberg, claiming her comedy was ‘filthy and dirty.’
Goldberg and her co-host Sunny Hostin opened the live episode of ‘The View’ on October 10 with sharp critiques of Trump. As the moderator, Goldberg started by showing two clips from Trump’s rallies in Scranton and Reading, Pennsylvania, to provide context for the discussion.
The clips in question had footage of Trump discussing The View’s October 8 interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.But rather than pointing out Harris’ actions, Trump went on to attack the show’s panellists, labelling them as “really dumb people.”
Trump specifically mentioned Goldberg by her name, recalling a cameo he made in her 1996 film ‘Eddie’. He said she once told him, “Oh, you’re so great. If you ever ran for president, you’d win.” He then suggested that politics had affected her judgment, saying, “Politics can do strange things to demented people.”
Trump continued by stating he had previously hired Goldberg for her comedy but was turned off by her performance, saying, “I’m not particularly shy about what I hear. [But] her mouth was so foul. She was so filthy, dirty. Disgusting. Half the place left. I said I’d never hire her again!”
Goldberg quickly responded, saying, “I was filthy, and I stand by that.” She pointed out that Trump knew what to expect when he hired her as a headliner at his casino, joking, “I might have kept playing there if you hadn’t run it into the ground!”
She also referenced Trump’s infamous 2005 Access Hollywood that surfaced during the 2016 election “You know how dirty I wasn’t? I never grabbed anybody by their genitalia,” she said.
“Many people use the F-bomb. He’s used the F-bomb… But there’s a difference between people who assault other people and people who say words that you don’t want little kids saying in the middle of church,” she added.
Finally, she challenged his claim that he would never hire her again, stating, “You hired me four times! And you didn’t know what you were getting? How dumb are you?”
