President of Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) Kesineni Sivanadh (Chinni) said that improving amenities at the scenic Dr YSR ACA VDCA Stadium with world class facilities, will be given top priority. He also said that apart from the two IPL matches this month, Visakhapatnam will host some more international cricket matches later this year.
“Yes, development of cricket stadiums in other districts, improving amenities is our agenda, but improving amenities at the Vizag stadium is our priority. This is not only the lone International stadium in the State, but it also has ‘Test’ status, which is a pride for Andhra Pradesh. Besides, the stadium has brought good fortune for our team India and its players. The stadium needs to be protected and developed,” the ACA president said.
He said that while with around ₹35 to ₹40 crore, first phase of development works were taken up in the stadium, the second phase works would begin at the stadium soon, focussing on improving other amenities.
Mr. Sivanadh said that the ACA was determined to make efforts to bring more matches to Visakhapatnam in the coming days and a few would be held this year.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has promised the ACA some matches in Visakhapatnam stadium later this year. I would not reveal them at the moment. Let it come from the BCCI,” Mr. Sivanadh said.
Speaking about having an exclusive IPL team for Andhra Pradesh, the ACA president said that improving cricket amenities and modernising stadiums, would attract franchises to come up with teams.
