INDTwo held for robbing retired DU professor’s house in Ashok Vihar

Two people have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a retired Delhi University professor’s house in Ashok Vihar, north-west Delhi, said a police officer on Thursday.

The accused have been identified as Suraj, alias Akhil, 32, and Sachin, 29, both residents of Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.

On Monday, a group of armed intruders looted gold and silver jewellery, cash, mobile phones, and a car from the retired professor’s house after tying up the victims and threatening them at gunpoint, said the officer.

The accused abandoned the stolen car near Wazirpur, north Delhi and hired a cab.

The officer said the crime scene’s CCTV footage helped identify the accused, adding that Suraj was apprehended in Ghaziabad and Sachin in Gautam Budh Nagar.

The accused had planned the robbery with the help of Sachin’s girlfriend, who worked as a domestic help at the professor’s house. She allegedly provided information about the valuables and helped the accused enter the house, said the officer.

Suraj has 17 cases, including robbery and attempt to murder, registered against him, while Sachin is an accused in 14 cases, said the officer.

Several stolen items, including a gold chain and silver coins, have been recovered, and the stolen car has also been seized.

The accused have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and further investigation is under way, added the officer.
