The newly-constructed toll plaza at Laxmipuram near Batlagundu on Dindigul – Kumuli highway, vandalised by the public on Wednesday.

A large number of people on Wednesday laid siege to and vandalised a newly-constructed National Highway toll plaza near Batlagundu in Dindigul district.
A four-lane road laying project connecting Dindigul with Kumuli was announced. However, only a two- lane road had been completed from Dindigul to Batlagundu. A toll plaza was constructed on the two-lane road in Lakshmipuram near Batlagundu.
The public had opposed the commissioning of the toll plaza without the four-lane work being fully completed.
Arrangements were made to inaugurate the toll plaza on Wednesday morning. Irked by this, the public vandalised the toll plaza and damaged the equipment.
There was tension and commotion in the area and traffic was affected. The Batlagundu police are investigating.
