Officials from Tirunelveli Corporation have sealed three commercial establishments for failing to pay taxes.
A review meeting was held at the Corporation Office on Saturday Chaired by Commissioner N.O. Sukhaputra, with the four zonal assistant commissioners, revenue officers and assistants in attendance.
At the meeting, the Commissioner emphasised the importance of timely collection of property tax, vacant land tax, water tax, underground drainage service charges and rent from corporation-owned commercial establishments. To facilitate timely payments and to help employees, he advised the officials to operate tax collection centres on weekends in all four zones in the city.
As part of the enforcement measure, officials disconnected 83 water connections due to pending tax payments. Additionally, Thachanallur zone officials sealed three commercial buildings for non-payment of taxes.
The authorities have urged all residents and business establishments to clear their tax dues immediately to avoid further enforcement actions. Also, the public can pay their taxes through the website https://tnurbanepay.tn.gov.in.
