A 25-year-old software employee ended her life at her residence in Raidurgam, allegedly unable to bear the persistent harassment from her husband, just six months into their marriage.
The deceased, identified as Devika, married 28-year-old Sharad Chandra in August 2024, and the couple was living in Prashant Hills, Manikonda. Both worked in the same company and had known each other for about two years before getting married. However, their relationship was reportedly strained due to frequent arguments.
On the evening of March 2, a heated argument broke out between the couple, following which Sharad left the house in anger. When he returned, he found Devika dead.
According to Raidurgam Inspector Ch. Venkanna, Sharad had allegedly been pressuring Devika to transfer ownership of a property registered in her mother’s name to him, which used to lead to repeated quarrels between them.
Based on a complaint filed by Devika’s mother, the Raidurgam police have registered a case against Sharad under charges of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide.
An investigation is underway.
