Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said a target has been set to treat the entire sewage in the urban pockets for the purposes of agriculture, gardening and local ponds by 2027.
In an interaction with the residents of Tanuku Municipality as part of the ‘Swarna Andhra-Swatch Andhra’ campaign in Tanuku on Saturday (March 15, 2025), Mr. Naidu has added that the entire sewage generated in the urban areas should be treated for various purposes.
Referring to his vision for a clean Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Naidu said the Swatchha Bharat initiative was his idea that was shared with Prime Minister Narendra Modi when the latter sought a suggestion.
“The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department (MA&UD) has been given October 2 as the target to clear the 85 lakh Metric Tonnes of solid waste that was left on the roads,” said Mr. Naidu.
APPCB aid
On robust solid-waste management, Mr. Naidu has announced, “The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) has granted ₹50 crore aid apart from lending ₹100 crore loan to the MA&UD Department for procurement of compactors and sweeping machines for solid waste management.”
Mr. Naidu has asserted that the State Government was keen on encouraging the setting up of Waste To Energy (WTE) plants to generate energy from the solid waste and ₹700-crore WTE plan would come up in Rajamahendravaram.
Hinting that he would inspect any village or urban body to assess the sanitary conditions after October 2, Mr. Naidu said; “We have sanctioned 4.6 lakh Individual Sanitary Latrines (ISLs) and 72,000 of them are under construction to ensure better sanitary conditions.”
Mr. Naidu has granted ₹50 crore for various developmental works in the Tanuku Municipality, where he inspected the park and vegetable market.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana, Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu, Swatchandra Corporation Chairman K. Pattabhi Ram, West Godavari Collector Chadalavada Nagarani and Tanuku MLA Arumilli Radhakrishna were present.
