Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday (March 19, 2025) said those responsible for the murder of Zakhir Hussain Bijli, a retired police sub-inspector in Tirunelveli, would be brought to justice.
“The government will not allow anyone to take law into their hands. Anyone involved in criminal activities cannot escape the clutches of law,” said the Chief Minister responding to a special calling attention motion moved by the Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami and other members of the House.
He said the police had registered a case based on the complaint filed by the wife of Zakhir Hussain and is probing the incident.
“Two persons from Thottipalam street have surrendered in the court. The police have formed a special team to trace others behind the murder. They are also investigating the video released by Zakhir Hussain explaining the death threats faced by him,” the Chief Minister said.
According to him, preliminary investigation had revealed there was a land dispute between Zakhir Hussain and Krishnamoorthy alias Mohamed Thowfeeque from the same area.
“Mr. Thowfeeque and his cousin Akbar Basha had filed a complaint against Zakhir Hussain and he (Zakhir) also has filed a complaint against them. The police had registered a CSR and were investigating. Police also conducted an inquiry after Zakhir Hussain released the video. Even as the investigation is progressing, the condemnable act (murder) has taken place,” Mr. Stalin said.
Manithaneya Makkal Katchi leader M.H. Jawahirullah, VCK member Shanavas, CPI leader T. Ramachandram, CPI(M) leader Nagai Malai and others spoke. They also requested financial assistance to the family of Zakhir Hussain and government job to one of his family members.
