Rachakonda Police have rescued 10 infants and arrested 27 persons, including key accused Amulya, an Asha worker from Malakpet, Hyderabad, in connection with an inter-State child trafficking racket.

The Special Operations Team of Malkajgiri, in collaboration with Chaitanyapuri Police, investigated the case as a follow up to their previous arrests in February. The probe led to the identification of more illegally procured infants. So far, six infants have been rescued through these efforts, while 11 remain missing. Special teams have been deployed to locate and rescue them.

The investigation revealed that a total of 25 infants were illegally procured and sold across multiple States, said Commissioner of Rachakonda police, G. Sudheer Babu. A total of 27 persons have been arrested in connection with the case. 

The key accused include Somu Amulya, 29, an Asha worker from Malakpet, Hyderabad, Vaishali Bheemrao Wasnik, 40, a mediator from Bramhani, Nagpur, Maharashtra, Janpally Karthik, 43, a lab technician at Gandhi Hospital, Sajjan Agarwal, 41, the owner of a marriage bureau in Ghansi Bazar, Hyderabad; Banala Mangaiah, 42, a businessman from Abdullapurmet, Bodasu Nagaraju, 31, a bricks business owner from Asifabad, Ramaram Ashok, 30, a labourer from Vinayaknagar, Neredmet, Shaik Ismail, 31, a car sales and purchases dealer in Hyderabad, and Macharla Vamshi Krishna, 31, a businessman from Nizampet, Hyderabad.

In addition, 18 adoptive parents who illegally purchased the infants were also arrested.

“The prime accused, Somu Amulya, an Asha worker from Malakpet, Hyderabad, collaborated with two persons named Kola Krishnaveni and Deepthi in procuring and selling infants. Amulya initially worked with Shaik Ismail, a former hospital supervisor, who introduced her to the trade by targeting childless couples. Over time, she expanded her network through social media and established contacts with traffickers across various states,” explained the officer. 

Infants were illegally procured from Mumbai in Maharashtra, Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, Raipur in Chhattisgarh, Amaravati in Maharashtra, and Hyderabad in Telangana. 

They were then sold in Kolkata in West Bengal, Chennai in Tamil Nadu, Bangalore in Karnataka, Hyderabad in Telangana, and Guntur in Andhra Pradesh.

“The accused charged different amounts for the infants based on their gender. Female infants were purchased for approximately ₹2-3 lakh and sold for ₹3-4 lakh, while male infants were purchased for ₹4-5 lakh and sold for ₹5-6 lakh,” said the officer. 

During police interrogation, Amulya admitted to trafficking eight infants, four boys and four girls. Of those, three girls and one boy were rescued. “Deepthi confessed to being involved in the trafficking of 10 infants, including four boys and six girls, with Amulya’s assistance. Of them, four girls and one boy were rescued. Kola Krishnaveni revealed that she was involved in the illegal procurement and sale of three infants, two boys and one girl, with one girl rescued,” concluded the Commissioner.
