WorldPutin was fast asleep when Biden, Trump shouted his name - Times of India

Vladimir Putin was sleeping when Joe Biden and Donald Trump were slugging it out at the first presidential face-off on CNN and took Putin’s name several times. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the US presidential election debate is not a main event for Moscow. And it was 4 am and Putin was not supposed to watch the debate. “I don’t think that you can expect the Russian president to set alarm, wake up early morning and watch the debate,” the spokesperson said.
“We have a lot of issues that are really important for our country, which are relevant for us.These are the issues that our president is dealing with. Debates in the United States are not part of the main issues on the agenda,” he said.
Russian news agency RIA, however, was not nonchalant about the debate and published a tally that the two candidates mentioned Vladimir Putin seven times and Trump mentioned Russia 16 times. “Biden expectedly misspoke multiple times and stammered, Democrats have already called his performance a failure,” RIA wrote.
Russia occupied a larger part of the debate as Trump said if the US had a real president respected by Putin, the Russian president would have never invaded Ukraine.
“Go ahead, let Putin go in and control Ukraine, and then move on to Poland and other places. See what happens then. He (Trump) has no idea what the hell he’s talking about,” Biden retorted.
Putin in a February interview said he was willing to work with any US president but preferred Biden because he was “a more experienced, predictable person, a politician of the old school”.
Russia did not care who the next US president was, as this would probably not change anything for Moscow, Putin said and added that the US court system was clearly being used in a political battle against Trump.
