A Special Court in Nalgonda on Monday (March 10, 2025) awarded death sentence to one of the seven accused and life imprisonment to the remaining in the sensational murder of a dailt youngster Perumalla Pranay Kumar – who was murdered on September 14, 2018.

Delivering the verdict, the Special Court Judge pronounced capital punishment to second accused Subash Kumar alias Sharma and life imprisonment to the remaining six accused. The prime accused in the case Maruthi Rao, father of Amrutha whom Pranay married, was found dead in a lodge room in March, 2020.

The police in September 2018 arrested Maruthi Rao and five others: the contract killer Subash Kumar alias Sharma from Bihar, Azgar Ali and Md Abdul Bari, Abdul Kareem, Maruthi Rao’s brother Sravan Kumar and Samudrala Shiva, Maruthi Rao’s driver.

On September 14, 2018, Pranay was hacked to death by a hired assailant as he was leaving a nursing home along with five-month pregnant Amrutha after her pre-natal tests, and his mother Premalatha.
