Minister for Transport and Backward Classes Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar hailed the decision of the Congress and other parties in nominating candidates from weaker sections for MLC elections under MLAs quota in Telangana Legislative Council.

Speaking to reporters in Vemulawada of Rajanna Sircilla district on Monday, Mr Prabhakar said the Congress party nominated SC, ST and BC candidates for the ensuing MLC elections under MLAs quota slated for March 20, 2025.

It is a welcome step towards the empowerment of weaker sections, he said, while referring to the nomination of the candidates from weaker sections by the Congress, its ally CPI and the main Opposition BRS for the five MLA quota seats in Telangana Legislative Council.

Our Congress government demonstrated its commitment to the empowerment of weaker sections by conducting caste census in the State as promised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for social justice, he said, reiterating that the Congress party is steadfast in its resolve to ensure 42% quota for BCs.

In another pioneering initiative, the Telangana government has decided to construct as many as 55 well-designed Young India Integrated Residential Schools with an outlay of ₹1,100 crore in the State to provide quality education for all and promote educational equity, he remarked.
