The Claims Commissioner appointed by the Kerala High Court to assess the damages caused to the public property during the flash hartal called by the outlawed Popular Front of India (PFI) in September 2022 in the State has assessed the damage caused to the KSRTC buses at ₹2.42 crore.
In a report submitted to the High Court, Claims Commissioner P.D. Sarangadharan said that services of KSRTC buses were interrupted on September 23, 2022, due to the hartal called by the organisation. Fifty-nine buses were attacked at various locations in the State during the hartal. Therefore, the organisation which called for the hartal and its supporters were solely responsible for the suspension of the services .The materials produced by the KSRTC and also the material collected during the proceedings established that the claims submitted by the KSRTC are bona fide and reasonable. The office-bearers and supporters of the outfit across the State are responsible and liable for the losses sustained by the KSRTC.
The report was filed in a suo motu contempt of court case registered against the office-bearers of the outlawed PFI.
