A total of 29,760 students in Dakshina Kannada and 14,153 in Udupi district are eligible to appear for the SSLC-1 examination, which will be held between March 21 and April 4.
Of the 29,760 students from Dakshina Kannada, 28,446 are regular fresh candidates and 831 are private fresh candidates. There are 259 regular repeaters and 217 private repeat candidates.
The highest of 6,007 students are from Bantwal; 5,443 from Mangaluru North; 5,182 from Mangaluru South; 4,926 from Puttur; 4,204 from Belthangady; 2,006 from Moodbidri, and 1,992 from Sullia educational blocks.
The examination will be held in 1,332 halls of 521 schools. In a press release, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Director of Public Instruction Govind Madiwal said a total of 1,678 CCTV cameras have been installed in these halls to enable webcasting of the proceedings. As many as 2,057 personnel, including 1,332 room supervisors, 92 each of centre chiefs, paper custodians, sitting squad, and mobile phone collecting squad, will be deployed. A total of 218 police personnel will also be involved in ensuring peaceful conduct of the examination. The district administration has declared 200 metres around examination centres as prohibitory area where no copying centres will be allowed to function, the release mentioned
Mr. Madiwal said teachers have strived to prepare students well for the first of three attempts of the examination. “Seeing the scores after the State-level preparatory exam, special classes were held for slow learners for the last 15 days. We are hopeful bettering the pass percentage of 92 recorded (ranked second) in 2024,” Mr. Madiwal told The Hindu.
In Udupi
Of the 14,153 students from Udupi district, 13,798 are regular fresh candidates, 215 are private fresh, 96 regular repeaters, and 44 private repeater candidates.
These students from 272 high schools will write examination in 590 rooms of 51 examination centres. A total of 1,013 personnel will be deployed. Facility to provide drinking water and food has been made at all the centres. Students can travel free in KSRTC buses to the examination centre by showing the examination hall ticket.
Students have been asked to report to the centre an hour before commencement of the exam. Candidates will not be allowed to carry mobile phones, smartwatches, bluetooth devices, and other electronic items, said an official press release.
