After many complaints from commuters about low frequency of trains resulting in overcrowding, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has advanced the starting time of five-minute frequency trains from 5.56 p.m. to 3.56 p.m. between ITPL and Mysuru Road stations on the Purple Line of Namma Metro.
The two-hour advance came into effect on March 13.
Before this, the trains were running at a 10-minute frequency. Now, the trains will be running at a five-minute frequency from 3.56 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is expected to benefit several IT workers, students and other commuters.
Commuters are relieved.
“After so many complaints for so long, the frequency of trains has finally been increased for this time period. However, with the fare hike, the BMRCL should also prioritise passenger convenience and increase the train frequency across the operating hours,” said Myna K, a regular commuter from K. R. Puram.
After the recent fare hike, the metro ridership has fallen by almost 1 lakh every day on an average. The ridership fell by almost 40 lakh between January and February. In January, the ridership was 2,49,14,736, whereas in February it came down to 2,09,90,894, as people started taking other modes of transport.
