Major (retired) Sushant Singh who is on a cyclothon solo from Kanniyakumari to Kathmandu before ascending Mount Everest, was accorded a welcome by enthusiasts of the sport in the city recently.

Mr. Singh, a veteran of the Indian Army’s elite Special Forces, who is no stranger to harsh terrain having operated in some of the harshest terrains, leading counter-terrorist operations in Kashmir and the North East, is on an ambitious expedition cycling from the lowest point of the landmass to the highest summit.

Having already completed this challenge across Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, the expedition has entered the Asia leg of “Project Inner Everest”, starting in India. His journey will take him through various terrains before reaching Kathmandu, where he will begin his ascent to the summit of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world.

Satish Nallam, President of Alliance Française Pondicherry, flagged off the expedition at the Gandhi Thidal. Members of the city’s cycling community rode alongside the explorer for a stretch in symbolic solidarity for the mission.

“This journey is about testing human limits — physically and mentally. Every challenge I take on is a step toward pushing beyond what we think is possible”, said Mr. Singh.
