World'It featured graphic nudity...': R-rated film played on Qantas flight with children onboard - Times of India

Passengers aboard a recent Qantas flight from Sydney to Tokyo were left in disbelief when an inappropriate movie featuring explicit content was played on every screen due to a technical glitch, as reported by the New York Post.
One traveller recounted the experience on Reddit, saying, “Qantas played an inappropriate movie to the whole plane, there was no way to turn it off.” The passenger explained that the in-flight entertainment system failed after a one-hour delay, prompting the crew to select a single film for all passengers. The movie chosen was ‘Daddio’ (2023), a drama starring Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn that contains graphic nudity and R-rated explicit sexual material.
The passenger continued, “It featured graphic nudity and a lot of sexting – the kind where you could literally read the texts on screen without needing headphones.” The discomfort worsened as their were families and children on board. Passengers were forced to endure nearly an hour of inappropriate content before the crew switched to a more suitable film.
Another passenger said, “How is this acceptable for a major airline? Has anyone else had something like this happen?”
A Qantas spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying, “The movie was clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight and we sincerely apologise to customers for this experience.” The spokesperson explained that when it became evident that the film was inappropriate, the crew attempted to rectify the situation. However, when this proved impossible, they changed all screens to a family-friendly movie, which is standard practice when individual selection is unavailable.
The airline is now reviewing its process for movie selection to prevent such incidents in the future.
