The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has penalised a resident of Journalist Colony for misusing drinking water, marking the second such incident within a week. A fine of ₹1,000 was imposed after an individual was found using drinking water to wash a vehicle.
During a recent inspection, Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Division-6 General Manager Harishankar and his team identified a resident, Yarata Shobha, washing her vehicle with drinking water in Journalist Colony. The violation led to an immediate fine under Water Board regulations. Officials have reiterated that strict action will be taken against those found wasting potable water.
According to officials, complaints about water misuse have surged, particularly after a recent case in Jubilee Hills, where a resident was fined for washing a motorcycle with drinking water. In response, HMWSSB has intensified inspections, with General Managers (GMs) and their teams monitoring neighbourhoods during water supply hours, the board said in a release.
