Trains coming to Visakhapatnam from Vijayawada were detained near Anakapalli for a couple of hours on Monday (March 17, 2025) morning as the girder below the track was damaged, after reportedly being hit by a tipper truck. The alert Loco Pilot of a goods train averted a possible accident by applying brakes.
Trains coming towards Visakhapatnam from Vijayawada were held up. The Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam Godavari Express and the Secunderabad-Bhubaneswar Visakha Express were stopped at Kasimkota station and the Mahboobnagar-Visakhapatnam express was stopped at Elamanchili, resulting in inconvenience to passengers.
According to reports reaching Visakhapatnam, the truck hit the girder, placed on the road to prevent the movement of heavy vehicles on the road underbridge, breaking the girder. It could have caused damaged to the girder below the track.
“The girder under the track loosened and the Loco Pilot of the goods train felt that the track was uneven, as the train passed on the track, above the road underbridge, at Vijayarama Raju peta, and stopped the train, sensing danger,” according to a railway source, who ruled out the talk of a truck hitting the girder.
Railway officials took up restoration of the track on a war-footing and the stranded trains were sent by the other track around 9 a.m., according to sources.
