Two persons were arrested while they were allegedly selling Ocean Grow (OG) Kush or hydroponic ganja near a high-end apartment complex at KPHB Colony on Thursday. Four buyers, who had arrived there to receive the contraband, were also nabbed.
The suspects have been identified as Tumula Ashish Kumar, 29, a private employee from Mumbai residing at Indu Fortune Fields, and Kattempudi Satwik, 20, a student from KPHB.
Upon searching a bag, police recovered 260 grams of OG Kush, sourced from Mumbai, and 1,100 grams of ganja. They also seized a glass jar containing ₹7,500, empty jars, transparent covers and batteries.
According to the police, Kumar started taking drugs in Mumbai and used to smuggle OG Kush into Hyderabad to capitalise on its high demand. He had sent Satwik to Mumbai with ₹2.5 lakh to procure the drugs from a contact named Rishikesh.
The two were caught while they were waiting to sell the drugs to Satwik’s friends at ₹3,000 per gram. This is not Kumar’s first encounter with the law. Last year, he was arrested by the Secretariat police while attempting to sell drugs. He was sent to jail and later released on bail.
Perala Rahul, 20, Perala Prathyush, 24, Abrar Khan, 23, and Jai Buddole, 20, were held while they were buying the drugs. They tried to escape seeing the police but were quickly caught and taken to custody.
Further investigation is under way.
