INDDrug addict arrested for hacking wife to death in Kerala’s Kozhikode

The police on Wednesday (March 19) arrested a 25-year-old man who allegedly hacked his wife to death at Engapuzha in Kozhikode district of Kerala on Tuesday. The suspect, identified as Yasir, was taken into custody from the Kozhikode Medical College premises.

The man, reportedly a synthetic drug addict, escaped from the spot after the crime around 7 p.m. Shibila, the victim, succumbed to injuries at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Her father P. Abdurahiman and mother Haseena who tried to intervene had also sustained grave stab injuries in the attack.

According to police sources, Shibila was not in good relationship with Yasir due to his drug addiction and alleged anti-social behaviours. The couple, who got married about four years ago, had been living apart for over four months. They were also classmates.

Yasir was caught with the support of a few local people. He was reportedly inside a parked car near the Kozhikode Medical College. He was taken into custody by the Medical College police for interrogation.

Police sources said Yasir and another Puthuppadi native who recently hacked his mother to death were friends for years. Both of them were drug addicts and involved in a series of local clashes.

There was also a complaint against Yasir filed by her wife with the Thamarassery police station for domestic violence.
