The convention of the Petroleum and Gas Workers Federation of India held here on Thursday urged the government to immediately end lateral appointments to crucial posts in public sector undertakings, including oil companies.
The convention held at Kundannoor Petro House was inaugurated by Swadesh Debroy, patron and founder of the federation.
Federation general secretary Nogan Chutiya presented the report. Petroleum and gas workers from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh attended the convention, said a release here. Federation national president Pradeep Mayekar, treasurer Sudeep Dutta, and CITU Kerala State secretary K. N. Gopinath were among those who spoke.
The federation demanded that the privatisation of PSUs be ended. The government must consider eligible and deserving candidates from within the PSUs for posts to which lateral appointments are now being made. The convention also demanded that PSUs fill vacancies at the earliest.
