Delhi Police on Thursday resumed its drive to identify and deport “illegal Bangladeshi immigrants” in the city. The development comes nearly a week after Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a review meeting on the Capital’s law and order. The drive started with the police verifying the documents of those living in jhuggis in central Delhi’s Palika Dham, Peshwa Road, and Kali Bari, said a senior officer.
No arrests have been made yet, the officer added.
Meanwhile, the police have deported two Bangladeshi nationals from Punjabi Bagh for residing in the national capital without valid documents, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer.
Lieutenant-Governor V.K. Saxena had, on December 11, 2024, ordered the Delhi Chief Secretary and the police chief to start a two-month-long drive against Bangladeshi nationals staying in the Capital illegally.
