Decomposed bodies of an elderly couple were found at their residence in Kohat Enclave, north-west Delhi, on Tuesday, said a police officer.

The deceased have been identified as Mohinder Singh, a garment shop owner, and his wife Diljeet Kaur, both 70 years old, said the officer.

Prima facie it appears as a case of burglary as the locker in the deceased’s residence was found broken, and their night attendant, hired three days ago, is incommunicado.

According to police, the Subhash Place police station received a PCR call on Tuesday morning of a foul smell emanating from a house in Kohat Enclave.

“A police team found the bodies of the elderly couple lying in separate rooms on the third floor of the building,” the officer said.

The state of decomposition suggested they had been dead for about two or three days, he said. Mohinder was strangled with an oxygen pipe, and his wife was hit with an iron rod on her head.

The officer said Mohinder was being taken care of by an attendant, Ravi, due to health issues. “Three days ago, Ravi, a resident of Uttam Nagar, proposed his replacement as he was going on long leave,” said the officer.

The man temporally replacing Ravi, who’s identity is not known yet, was hired three days ago.

The couple has two sons, who live near their house, and a daughter. They hadn’t been to their parents for the last three days and did not know about their deaths until they were told by a driver, said the officer.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and a manhunt has been launched to nab Ravi and his accomplice, added the officer.
