A 48-year-old man was found murdered on the premises of the weekly market at Chennimalai here on Monday.
The police identified the deceased as S. Ganesan, a construction worker from Thirunagar Colony on Ingur Road.
On information from the residents, Chennimalai police recovered the body and sent it to Government Erode Medical College and Hospital in Perundurai for postmortem.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that Ganesan had consumed alcohol with two friends at a TASMAC bar near a theatre on Arachalur Road on Sunday night. He did not return home that night. His body was found at 7 a.m. the following morning, and the police were informed. The police found two stones near the body. Perundurai DSP Gokula Krishnan inspected the scene.
The police said they are on the lookout for Ganesan’s friends. The victim is survived by his wife and three daughters.
