The industry associations in Coimbatore district have largely welcomed the announcements in the Tamil Nadu Budget presented on Friday.
The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association welcomed the plans to establish a Centre of Excellence for Advanced Pump and Motor technologies in Coimbatore, develop semiconductor manufacturing parks in Sulur and Palladam of each 100 acres in collaboration with US, Singapore, Malaysia, and Taiwan to propel the economic growth of Coimbatore region, establish new industrial estates by SIDCO at nine locations at ₹366 crore, and disbursement of ₹2.5 lakh crore bank loans to MSMEs.
According to the Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association, centres of excellence for pumps and foundries will be used to boost research and development to tap the international market and replacement of inefficient pumps worth ₹675 crore and Combined Water Supply Scheme worth over ₹6,500 crore is expected to spur demand in pumpsets and thereby the foundry industry.
The Indian Pump Manufacturers’ Association said the centre of excellence for pumps will enable the industry to make high value pumps and make Coimbatore the pump city of the world.
The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore, said in a press release that the well-balanced Budget plans setting up industrial training centre in Coimbatore and ply 75 e-buses in the district. A global city should be developed in Coimbatore, it said.
According to the Planters’ Association of Tamil Nadu, the announcement of developing dedicated Master Plans for hill areas for approximately 1,200 sq. km covering the Nilgiris district, including Udhagamandalam, Coonoor, Kotagiri, Gudalur and Nelliyalam, and Valparai in Coimbatore district, Kodaikanal in Dindigul district and Yercaud in Salem district, will be relevant for the plantation growing areas.
The Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Tiny Enterprises welcomed the announcements related to semi conductor and pumpset sectors but expressed disappointment over lack of plans to develop an industrial estate for micro units.
According to the Coimbatore Tirupur District Micro and Cottage Enterprises Association, while measures to develop industrial training institutes will benefit the industry, there is no announcement on reducing the electricity charges.
The Coimbatore Compressor Industries Association said the allocation for MSMEs did not go up and there were no measures to revive the MSMEs in the State.
The Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council said allocation of ₹1,980 crore for handlooms and textiles, including ₹30 crore to modernise powerlooms to shuttleless looms and ₹20 crore for infrastructure development in powerloom clusters will strengthen the textile sector.
The South India Hosiery Manufacturers’ Association, which welcomed the Budget, said there were no announcements to improve the garment industry in Tiruppur.
The Tiruppur Exporters and Manufacturers’ Association said the Budget was disappointing for Tiruppur as it did not have any announcement for cotton development in the State or reduction of power charges.
According to the Openend Spinning Mills Association, funds to increase power generation and plans for higher credit outgo for MSMEs will support development of industries.
