District Collector C. Dinesh Kumar held a review meeting with officials of the Department of Public Health and Family Welfare in Krishnagiri when the Deputy Director of Public Health tabled a report on the indicators and delivery achievements of the Department till February 2025.
The review meeting assessed the number of pregnancies and deliveries, immunisation, maternal and infant mortalities and preventive measures to augment maternal and child health.
Reviewing the mortality rates at birth for the last three years upto February 2025, the Collector told the officials that the death rates at birth must be brought down to nil.
Under the Tuberculosis Association of India, an overview of the TB prevention and awareness programme over the last three years upto February 2025, was presented.
Highlighting the 100 day TB elimination campaign, the Collector underlined the need to strengthen the campaign to eliminate TB. He instructed strengthening of screening of patients coming in with symptoms of Tuberculosis to primary health centres.
He also emphasised the need to work on reducing maternal mortality in the district and instructed officials to file a report on maternal mortalities that occur. The Health Department was instructed to ensure 100% immunisation of children at birth and uploading of details in the U-WIN portal.
The Public Health Department was also asked to ensure pregnancy registrations and thereby institutional pregnancies through registrations in PICME portal and through Reproductive Child Health cards. The Collector also insisted on thorough monitoring of teenage marriages and curbing teenage pregnancies. The Department must increase monitoring against illicit prenatal diagnostics and sex determination and termination of pregnancies in the district.
Earlier, Mr. Dinesh Kumar lauded the efforts of the Deputy Director of Health, Krishnagiri, and the Block Medical Officer of Kelamangalam blocks in cracking down on sex-selective termination of pregnancies.
