A team of officials from New Delhi visited Rushikonda Beach on Friday evening to review the situation in the wake of the temporary revocation of the Blue Flag status by the Foundation for Environment Education (FEE) on charges of poor maintenance of the facilities developed on the beach.
It may recalled that the status was revoked following complaints of lack of infrastructure and alleged misuse of the parking facility. The district administration has written to the FEE seeking a review of the facilities and restoration of the Blue Flag status to Rushikonda Beach. The team from Delhi, led by Ajay Saxena and Sriji Kurup, inspected the facilities.
Regional Director of Tourism Jagadish and officials of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) took the team around the renovated and newly set up infrastructure facilities.
The team will conduct further inspections on Saturday (March 22) also and come out with its report. A decision on restoration of the Blue Flag status would be taken after that, according to sources.
