INDBIS Madurai celebrates World Consumer Rights Day


The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Madurai celebrated World Consumer Rights Day 2025 as residents’ welfare association standards carnival with residents of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) township in Tiruchi on Saturday under the theme “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles”.

A series of events were organised. Around 30 stalls were put up to display quality products to create awareness amongst consumers. About 19 BIS licensees displayed their products and explained the science behind their making and testing.

Various competitions such as quiz, poster designing, and science projects, were conducted on Thursday at six schools located in BHEL township. Competitions were conducted for children with disabilities of Arivalayam School, BHEL. The winners were rewarded with prizes and certificates.

S.D. Dayanand, senior director and head, BIS, Madurai, informed the significance of the day and highlighted the six consumer rights. The residents were made aware of the BIS CARE App emphasising the importance of quality and standards, the significance of the ISI mark, Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) mark, and BIS Hallmark in upholding safety and quality for consumer goods.
