Parents and school management committee members of Government Madrasa I Azam School, Anna Salai have urged the government to allow the students of the school to use the newly built Chief Minister’s Mini Stadium built in the school’s premises.
Pointing out that land meant for educational purposes has been turned commercial, a member of the school management committee said, “We were not informed of the plan to build a stadium in the school premises. The school was not involved in the process when it was being built in their premises. There is no security posted, how is the safety of the students ensured when a commercial stadium is built?”
Stating that the gym must be opened to students for usage, a member from the Social Democratic Party said, “A vocational institute, paramedical College, hostels could be built for educational purposes.”
Further stating that the newly built nameboard has not prominently displayed the school name a committee member said, “The school takes precedence. While the gym and turf has already been built, why has our name taken the brunt?” The path leading to the school has been turned to mush due to the rains with many students urging the government to build a road in for smooth travel.
However, the teachers at the school have stated that students could use the gym and turf for two hours.
