WorldTrump speaks out on assassination attempt: ‘Maybe God wants me to fix our country’ - Times of India

Former President Donald Trump on Sunday said that surviving a near-death experience has deepened his faith in God. Speaking with Fox News host Mark Levin, Trump said, “If you already believed in God, you believe in God even more.”

When asked why he thinks he survived the assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally in July, the Republican presidential candidate said, “I’d like to think that God wants me to help fix our country. Our country is so sick and broken, and maybe that’s why; I’m not sure.”
Previously, after the shooting incident, Trump told reporters that he “wasn’t supposed to be here” and was “supposed to be dead.” He said, “By luck or by God, many people are saying it’s by God I’m still here,” as reported by The Guardian.
In the Sunday interview, Trump also discussed expert opinions on the shooting.
“When you speak to experts, like my sons who are shooting experts, they said there was no chance the gunman could have missed from that distance,” Trump said. “I think he was hurried and rushed because people started noticing there was a guy up there with a gun.”
Host Levin expressed shock over the fact that the shooter was on the roof, saying it drove him “crazy.”
Trump praised the Secret Service’s swift response, stating, “Luckily, he was taken out quickly. But if he hadn’t been, it could have been like the horrific Las Vegas attack, with a shooter in a building firing down into crowds.”
The former President said that he had “every right” to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election.
“It’s so crazy that my poll numbers go up. Whoever heard you get indicted for interfering with a presidential election where you have every right to do it?” Trump said. “You get indicted and your poll numbers go up.”
Several gunshots were fired at a rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania, on July 14, sending the event into chaos as one bullet grazed Donald Trump’s head. Trump, sporting his signature red “Make America Great Again” cap, winced and clutched his ear, which was visibly bleeding along with his cheek. He was swiftly escorted off the stage by US Secret Service agents.
