M.S. Chellamuthu Trust and Research foundation here on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH) of Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, for a study on reducing the alcohol dependency using novel homeopathic techniques.

Subhash Kaushik, Director General, CCRH, said the new study was believed to open up new avenues in the field of treating and rehabilitating people addicted to alcohol. “Alcohol dependency due to various factors such as stress, overburden in work, etc., is increasing every day in our country,” he said.

Moreover, deaddction treatment had become challenging owing to the complications related to handling people who were into the habit of drinking, he said.

To mitigate side effects and produce positive results, homeopathy would be the best alternative aveneue to the existing methods, he said.  “The study shows that positive results could help people in rejuvenating their life,” Mr. Kaushik added.

C. Ramasubramanian, founder and senior psychiatrist, MSCT and RF, said that though the trend of viewing mental problems indifferently has changed, the overall change in mindset towards the issue was yet to happen.

Most of the so-called untreatable psychological issues, if provided with the right treatment and care, could be cured completely, he said.

As the geriatric population in India was increasing, the psychiatrist issue associated with ageing was also increasing. “While getting treated for psychiatrist issues is seen as a sin, we at out institute has taken up the job of addressing the mental health issues as our mission,” he added.

Jegadish Baskaran, consultant in anaesthesia and palliative care, said he majored in pain management. The kind of mental suffering a person should endure during treatments like chemotherapy was unimaginable.  “Through repeated study and research, I learned that incorporation of homeopathy in the usual procedure will mitigate the pain associated with medical procedure,” he added.

“Not just through study, I have experienced the results of the incorporation through the positive reactions my patients displayed during such treatments, Dr. Jegadish Baskaran said.

A resource book on teacher’s well-being and adolescent safety was released at the event.
