Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday interacted with representatives of farmer organisation Delhi Kisan Morcha and assured them of “addressing and resolving their issues”. The Bharatiya Janata Party government has been consulting various stakeholders ahead of the Budget Session, scheduled to begin on March 25.
In an interaction held at the Delhi Secretariat, farmers raised several key concerns, including the subsidy on fertilisers and seeds, implementing a land pooling policy with immediate effect, and saving standing crops in different villages from inundation due to overflowing drains in the rainy season.
The Chief Minister assured that rural issues will be addressed promptly, emphasising that Delhi now has a “government that works for people rather than one that shifts the blame”.
Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, Ms. Gupta said Delhi’s farmers contribute significantly not only to food production but also to the city’s greenery.
The previous governments “did nothing for farmers and neglected their needs” but the BJP government is committed to prioritise the “farmers’ needs” and will ensure their suggestions are included in the upcoming budget, she said.
Addressing the gathering, Delhi Cabinet Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, who was also present in the meeting, reaffirmed the government’s commitment “to complete rural infrastructure projects related to education, health care, roads and connectivity, and electricity supply”.
Mr. Singh assured farmers that the government will always be accessible to ensure that their concerns are addressed effectively.
The BJP government will table its maiden budget in March last week.
