A thief entered a locked house by taking the key, which was kept in a shoe rack, at Bandepalya in Bengaluru and took 83 grams of gold jewellery worth ₹3.5 lakh. 

The resident of the house keeping the house key in the shoe rack while leaving for work. Hours later, a man broke into the house using the key.

The thief was arrested. He is a habitual offender from Bhadravati. He had sold the stolen jewellery at a store in Jayanagar. The jewellery has been recovered. 

Bengaluru Police Commissioner B. Dayananda advised people not to keep the house key in shoe racks, below a flower pot or other such places. “Burglars know that keys are kept at such places. It is better to carry the key with you,” he said. He further said that with summer holidays coming, many residents go to their native places locking their houses. He appealed to them to inform the local police station in such cases, to ensure surveillance on the house while they are gone.
