As many as 11 militia members of Galikonda Area Committee of the banned CPI (Maoist) Party voluntarily surrendered before the Superintendent of Police, Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district, Amit Bardar, at Paderu on Friday.
The militia members hail from the interior areas of GK Veedhi and Koyyuru mandals of ASR district. They were involved in about 11 offences.
Mr. Amit Bardar said that the militia members were vexed of the outdated ideology adopted by the Maoist party and were attracted towards the developmental programmes being undertaken by the ASR district police as part of community policing.
The SP said that medical camps, awareness programmes, government’s initiatives to instal cell towers, providing road connectivity to interior areas of G.K.Veedhi, and Koyyuru mandal, had led them to understand the government’s intention to take up development in the area.
He also called upon the Maoists to make use of the government welfare schemes and facilities, to lead a better life with their families.
“All the steps will be taken to ensure the government benefits are provided to the surrendered. Those who want to come out of the Maoist party and join the mainstream of life can do so either voluntarily or through their relatives by contacting the police station near them, or consulting the higher officials of the district police,” he said.
The Additional SP (Admin), K. Dheeraj, and the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Chinthapalli Sub-Division, Navajyothi Mishra, were present.
