Work on the Kerala State Housing Board’s dream Eco City project is likely to begin in May. The first phase of the work will comprise the construction of mixed-use residential-cum-commercial buildings including allied works on Plot-A, Phase-1, at Marine Drive, Kochi.
The work will be carried out on 3.16 acres. The total plot area for the entire project is 17.90 acres. Work on 3.16 acres will constitute Phase I of the project.
Speaking at the 54th anniversary celebrations of the Housing Board recently, Revenue Minister K. Rajan said the Eco City project was the biggest in its history and expressed hope that the work could begin in May. He also said that most of the permits for beginning work on the project had been received. Work to get the remaining clearances is under way.
There will be 3BHK and 4BHK residential units with generous provisions for car parking. There will also be a convention centre to meet the growing needs of the city.
The Minister was also of the opinion that Kerala needed a new housing policy. The State has faced several natural calamities since 2016, and housing policies should suit the special needs of respective geographies and localities. The Minister appealed to the Board to consider these past experiences when drawing up plans.
The Housing Board should also take steps to introduce more elderly-friendly housing schemes. This is important in the light of young generation leaving their parents for work in different places.
He said houses should be built in such a way that the elderly could spend their time in happiness and leisure. The commercialisation of space for the elderly should be brought to an end with the Housing Board schemes.
The Eco City project has been long in coming. It will be a harmonious blend of luxury and Green Building Design with spaces of premium amenities and top-quality amenities for comfort and functionality.
