The salesman of a ration shop here has been placed under suspension for selling 50 kg rice without ration card.
Sources in the Department of Cooperation said a video showing a person carrying a 50 kg rice bag from the Maharaja Nagar ration shop was shared on social media even as the maximum rice per ration card is only 20 kg. Subsequently, Collector R. Sukumar ordered Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies Murugesan to inquire into the incident.
As the inquiry revealed that ration shop salesman Muthaiah had sold the rice to the stranger without making entries in records, he was placed under suspension on Monday.
