The Sultan Bathery police on Monday (March 10) arrested a Tanzanian citizen suspected to be a prime agent of inter-State drug pushers operating between Kerala and Karnataka.
Prince Samson, the suspect, was nabbed by the police with the support of the anti-narcotics squad from Bengaluru after a two-week-long series of flash inspections based on a tip-off from one of the previously arrested drug pushers in the Wayanad district.
Police sources said the Tanzanian citizen had come to Bengaluru to pursue a Bachelor of Computer Application course at a leading college under sponsorship. He was taken into custody from his rented house in Bengaluru. Four mobile phones and a few laptops were reportedly recovered from him during the inspection held at his house.
A police officer who was part of the checking squad said the man was found to have carried out suspicious financial transactions worth ₹80 lakh within a short period. He was suspected of mobilising huge amounts of money by acting as a key agent for drug smugglers in Karnataka, they said.
It was on February 24 that the police nabbed a Malappuram native named Shafeeque with 94 gm of suspected MDMA at Muthanga. The anti-narcotics squad received the first tip-off from Mr. Shafeeque to keep an eye on Prince Samson. Police sources said more suspects would be nabbed upon completion of the forensic examination of the seized mobile phones and laptops.
