NEW DELHI: An adopted teenager shot and killed his parents and sister in their Sao Paulo home in Brazil, over having his cell phone taken away, police said Wednesday.
According to the local security ministry statement, the triple homicide was only discovered on Monday when the boy called the police and confessed to the crime that took place Friday.
The investigation chief, Roberto Afonso said that the 16-year-old who was adopted became “very frustrated” after his parents confiscated his phone following an argument.
The teenager told investigators that he obtained his father’s service gun, who was a municipal policeman, and shot him in the back. He then proceeded upstairs and shot his 16-year-old sister in the face. When his mother, arrived home several hours later, he killed her with the same weapon.
The father was 57 and the mother 50, the police said.
Roberto Afonso told Brazilian network TV Record that, “We need to understand if this was frustration related to some sort of psychological disturbance.” The police are also investigating the possibility of someone else’s involvement, including whether the boy spoke to anyone on the phone during the incident, he added.
The teen stayed inside the residence with the three deceased individuals from Friday until the early hours of Monday when law enforcement took him into custody.
During that time he went to the gym and made a purchase at a bakery. Continuing to experience “anger” on Saturday, he stabbed his mother’s lifeless body with knife, according to statements made by Afonso.
The boy currently detained at a juvenile facility for young offenders, exhibited a “cold” disposition when recounting the criminal acts, as reported by the official.
In Brazil, special legal provisions safeguard underage suspects and cannot be tried as adults.
