As many as 34 Tamil language teachers are employed across 34 PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya’s in Tamil Nadu, according to data provided by the Union Ministry of Education on Monday.

Replying to a question raised by MP Dayanidhi Maran in Parliament regarding the total number of teachers available for Tamil, Hindi and Sanskrit language in Tamil Nadu they added that there are 69 Hindi Language Teachers, and 50 sanskrit language teachers across 34 PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalays in Tamil Nadu.

There are a total of 45 Kendriya Vidyalayas functioning in Tamil Nadu.

“Tamil teachers are appointed on a contractual basis, as the sanctioned language teacher posts in Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools are for Hindi, English, and Sanskrit as Kendriya Vidyalayas are specified category schools,” it stated.

According to the reply, Tamil is taught through the Tamil Virtual Academy (TVA) in 21 out of the 45 Kendriya Vidyalayas of Tamil Nadu as per the information received from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. TVA is an autonomous organisation under the Tamil Nadu State government. In the remaining 24 Kendriya Vidyalayas, contractual teachers are hired for teaching Tamil.

Stating that Kendriya Vidyalayas are specified category schools mandated to provide uniform education to the wards of Central government employees, it said that no separate funds are allocated for any specific language.

Replying to a question on disbursal of PM SHRI funds for the State, they stated that Tamil Nadu is yet to onboard the PM SHRI scheme.
