In a major crackdown on “illegal Bangladeshi immigrants”, the Delhi police on Wednesday arrested 28 persons from three different police districts. The police instructed market associations and residents’ welfare associations to be vigilant about hiring or renting out spaces to foreign nations.

In the south-east police district, 11 illegal immigrants including two minors were held while 13 Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the Capital have been detained in the southern district. Earlier in the day, four Bangladeshi immigrants were arrested from the north-west district.

“During sustained interrogation, it was revealed that the apprehended individuals had illegally entered India by crossing the Benapole and Hakimpur borders in Kolkata, West Bengal and travelled to Delhi via local trains and had been residing in various localities without possessing any valid documents or permits,” DCP (South East) Ravi Kumar Singh said.
